In 2014 I graduated with a MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cagliari, Italy. For both my bachelor and master degrees, my projects were related to research and to the study of novel techniques. That is what I like and what I would like to do in my porfessional life.
After graduating, I heard about the possibility of applying to do research at the University of Sheffield in a subject area completely new to me - Tribology. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to continue doing what I like, but would also allow me to develop skills in a new topic which are applicable to a wide range of subjects.
One of the things I really appreciate about the CDT is that it is a four year program. The programme structure allows you to move into your project gradually, after a first year gaining important skills to properly work in your own research field.
In future I would like to work either in the automotive or aerospace industry, and the CDT program offers the opportunity to work in direct contact with some of the biggest company in these fields. I strongly recommend the iT - CDT program to those who like doing research at high levels working close to industrial partners.
